Student Representatives
The Astronomy department at UT Austin has many different student representatives that serve to bridge the gap between the undergraduate class and the department faculty and staff.
The astronomy department selected two students to serve as 2022-2023 student representatives.
ASA has also elected two freshmen astronomy students to serve as Freshmen Representatives for our organization.

Kanyuni Iemoto
Hello! My name is Kanyuni Iemoto (she/her), and I am excited to serve as the co-representative for astronomy undergraduates. I am a sophomore and an international student from Tokyo, Japan. I am also part of the Planetary Peer Network organizing committee, a community of undergraduates, graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers under the UT Center for Planetary Systems Habitability. Since last spring, I have been part of Dr. Montgomery’s White Dwarf Stars FRI. This past summer, I interned at the Kavli Institute for the Physics and Mathematics of the Universe in Japan, where I worked on target selection for the Subaru Prime Focus Spectrograph (PFS) survey. I look forward to supporting this wonderful astronomycommunity and helping make it even more welcoming.
Ananya Gupta
Hi everyone! My name is Ananya Gupta (she/her), and I’m excited to serve as your undergraduate co-representative. I'm an international student, currently pursuing a double in Astronomy & Physics, with a minor in SDS. I'm also a member of Dr. Finkelstein's GEVIP program, and a mentor for Dr. Montgomery's White Dwarfs FRI Program. Research is one of my favorite aspects of college, and I’ve been involved in several projects over the past two years, so feel free to ask me about them!
Outside of academics, I love playing guitar and am currently learning a couple of new songs. As your co-rep, I hope to continue the amazing work Avery and Lipika did last year by keeping communication about opportunities, questions, and department updates open and accessible.
